What is not collected

  • No third-party analytics. No outside company is told that you were here, and nothing builds a profile of you.
  • Sellers are told how many people opened each of their listings, per day. That count is a number and nothing else. It does not include who you are, your address, or anything else you looked at.
  • No advertising trackers, and no pixels belonging to anybody else.
  • No embedded content from other companies, so no other company learns that you were here.
  • No cookies at all before you sign in. Browsing the catalog sets nothing in your browser.

What is stored

Categories of data stored, why each exists, and how long it is kept
WhatWhyHow long
Your email addressTo sign you in, to send the messages you ask for, and to reach you about your own account.Until you delete your account.
A hash of your passwordTo check your password without storing it. The password itself is never written down anywhere.Until you delete your account.
Your sessions, with the IP address and browser they started fromSo you can see which devices are signed in and sign any of them out, and so a stolen session can be ended.Until the session expires or you revoke it.
Your listings, photographs, saved searches, garage and favouritesThey are the thing you came here to make. Listings and reviews are public by design.Until you delete them, or your account.
Messages you send to other membersTo deliver them, and so a report about one can be looked at by a moderator.Kept while the conversation exists.
A fingerprint of each message you send, and who you sent it toTo notice one message being sent to many different sellers, which is what bulk scams look like. It is a hash rather than the text, and nothing here is readable back as a message.Removed with the message, or with either account.
Reviews you write and replies you receiveThey are public, attached to a seller, and readable by anybody.Until you withdraw the review.
A short-lived counter against your IP address, when you sign in, register, reset a password, or open a listing page
Applies before you sign in
To stop somebody guessing passwords against your account, and to stop one visitor being counted as a hundred on a listing. It is a count, and it is never written down.Minutes to an hour, then it expires on its own.
How many people opened each listing, counted per day
Applies before you sign in
So the seller can tell whether interest in a car is going up or down. It is a total per day and nothing else: not who you are, not your address, not what else you looked at, and there is no row anywhere recording an individual visit.Kept while the listing exists, and deleted with it.
A record of administrative actions taken on your accountSo no moderation decision can be made without an actor, a reason and a before-and-after state.Kept as a permanent record, because an audit trail that can be erased is not one.

What you can do

  • See every signed-in device on your security page, and sign any of them out.
  • Change or delete your listings, saved searches, garage and favourites at any time.
  • Withdraw a review you wrote. It stops counting toward the seller average at once.
  • Deactivate your account, which ends every session and takes your listings out of search.
  • Ask for a copy of what is held about you, or ask for it to be deleted, using the contact address above.

One thing cannot be deleted on request: the record of administrative actions taken on an account. An audit trail that the subject of it can erase is not an audit trail, and it is the only protection against a moderation decision being made and then denied.

What is public

Listings, seller profiles and reviews are public by design. So is your display name where it appears on a review. Messages between members are not public, but a moderator can read a conversation that somebody has reported.
